I work in business intelligence and data analysis. Often, the information an organization needs is already there, but it is spread across systems or recorded inconsistently. I build the databases and reporting that bring it together.
My work combines SQL and relational database development with operational dashboards and automated workflows. I investigate discrepancies in the source records and improve how information is collected when that is where the problem begins.
My background includes university teaching and international survey research, with a PhD from Duke and a coauthored book from Columbia University Press. I am particularly interested in applying BI and analysis to higher education.
Midland, Michigan | Open to new roles
Shipping staff and regional sales managers needed to check posted shipments throughout the day. Their report was slow and sometimes assigned shipments to the wrong region. I mapped its ERP sources and investigated the business rules behind the results before rebuilding the SQL.
I prepared 105,996 federal OSHA severe-injury reports for an interactive Tableau dashboard. The reporting distinguishes federal coverage from State Plan reporting gaps, so missing coverage is not mistaken for lower injury counts.
New hires were assigned required training, but managers could not see where progress stopped or why. I reviewed an earlier cohort, then built a relational database and tracking procedure for the next group. The case study explains what we found and how the tracking supported manager follow-up.

I analyzed survey data covering more than 100,000 respondents across 140 countries and coordinated contributions from eight senior researchers. The project examined whether life-satisfaction scores could support broader conclusions about well-being and national progress. It produced a Global Happiness Council white paper, later expanded into the coauthored book Against Happiness.
I develop operational reports and dashboards in SSRS and Tableau, including scheduled reporting and automated distribution. Users need to understand how results were calculated and be able to check the underlying records.
I design relational schemas and write SQL to prepare reporting datasets. My work includes views, stored procedures, custom functions, indexes, and query optimization across Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and BigQuery.
I bring records from different systems into consistent relational models. This involves mapping fields and resolving differences in how information is stored. I develop ETL processes and integrations between ERP systems and databases, using Airtable and Zapier where appropriate.
I investigate inconsistent classifications and trace discrepancies to their sources. I work through the business rules behind a report and document them so the reporting can be maintained as systems and requirements change.
I use quantitative and qualitative evidence to assess programs and performance measures. My experience includes SPSS and international survey analysis, with particular attention to instrument validity and whether comparisons are justified.
I work with users to establish requirements and understand the workflows a system needs to support. I help carry changes through testing and staff training, with documentation for operational handoff. I am PMP-certified and coordinate remote technical-analysis projects across departments.
